The Rangers at Holyrood Park are encouraging local people to come along to the Park’s Community Fun Day and annual Dog Show this Sunday, 1st August.

This family event, which is from 10.45am until 3pm, will have something for everyone to enjoy or get involved in, including a host of games and competitions.

Dog lovers who bring their pets along can enter them in a variety of entertaining classes including  ‘Waggiest Tail’ and ‘Best Junior Handler’.  Dogs Trust will be demonstrating a rescue dog agility display at 12.30pm and there’s also a fun agility class, with every dog entering being awarded with a rosette.  Also attending will be the SSPCA and the PDSA, which will be providing free health checks for dogs and a bargain price micro-chipping service.

There will also be a series of lively sports activities on the day for all ages, with fun events including tossing a volcanic rock, a three-legged gull race, and a frog-hopper bouncing race.

Other entertainments on offer include the opportunity to take part in an art workshop with Holyrood Park’s artist in residence, and to solve a wildlife crime mystery with the Park Rangers, and learn how the Rangers team promotes the responsible use of outdoor spaces in a fun and active way.

The Community Fun Day also provides a chance to meet the crews of the Emergency Services and explore their vehicles – so you can climb aboard a fire engine, see yourself on CCTV, and step inside an ambulance.

Ranger Nicky Pettigrew, Holyrood Park Ranger, said: “The Community Fun Day promises an enjoyable and free day out for families and provides a nice reminder too that Holyrood Park is a fantastic space for walks, with nature and history all rolled into one.”
