Police in Midlothian are appealing for witnesses to a road collision involving a tipper lorry and a cyclist on the A6094 on Monday morning.

The cyclist, a man in his 40s, was seriously injured when he was involved in a collision with the lorry around 8.40am, approximately half way between Howgate and Leadburn.

Following the collision, the lorry continued towards Leadburn, while the cyclist was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he is in a serious condition. The road between Howgate and Leadburn was closed for a short time while investigations were carried out at the scene, and has now reopened.

Police are appealing for the lorry driver to contact them as a matter of urgency, similarly anyone who has any information that can assist in identifying the driver should also get in touch.

The tipper lorry is described as having a grey or silver trailer, and a black or blue tarpaulin cover.

A police spokesman said: ‘It is very possible that the driver has carried on without realising what has happened, and it’s important that they contact police as a matter of urgency.

‘Similarly, anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was on the A6094 this morning and noticed either the cyclist or the lorry heading towards Leadburn, should also get in touch.’

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
