A man killed in a single car collision on Salamander Street in the Leith area last night has been named by police.

David Yorkston, 38, of Port Seton, East Lothian was killed when his silver Vauxhall Signum collided with a lamp-post on Salamander Street at approximately 18.40 yesterday evening. A cause for the crash has not yet been determined and Lothian and Borders Police are continuing to investigate.  They have urged anyone with information to come forward.  Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.

It appeared that no other vehicles were involved and there were no passengers in the car when The Reporter got to the scene.

Local residents tried to free the unconcious man before emergency services arrived, but regrettably he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Salamander Street was closed from the junction with Salamander Place to the junction with Elbe Street until after midnight as police investigated the incident, although it has now fully reopened.
