The word on the street is that the pandas will arrive in Edinburgh this weekend. They are being sent by FedEx according to The Herald. Tian Tian and Yang Guang should be here in time for Christmas. In the meantime, the First Minister is on his way to China on a pre-arranged visit from this weekend.

A message from Alistair Tibbitt at Greener Leith and a plea for your help:-

Greener Leith is in the final short list for a grant of up to £80,000 for our proposed Portobello and Leith Community Wind Turbine project. If the project gets the green light it won’t just generate green energy. It will also generate a surplus of hundreds of thousands of pounds over its lifetime. It is out intention, to work with PEDAL Portobello to use this surplus to support community projects in the Leith, Craigentinny and Portobello area.
Therefore, the turbine could help to offset some of the cuts to local authority spending that many local groups are having to deal with.
The trouble is, to gain the £80,000 we have to win an online public vote – and we’re currently second. Therefore, I’m writing to you to ask you whether you can help us get some more votes. Here’s what you can do to help:
First, go here: http://www.energyshare.com/portobello-leith-community-wind-energy-project/ and vote. Although you have to register on the Energyshare website, the whole process should only take a couple of minutes.
Second, once you’ve voted – please share the above link with folk in your social media accounts. If you are on Facebook, please sign-up for the ‘voting event’ and share it with all your friends. You can find the event here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=177382445684690
Lastly, if the organisation you work for has a blog, and/or an email list, please do mail your supporters and encourage them to vote too. If you need more facts about the project you can see this link for more detail: http://www.greenerleith.org/a-z/p-is-for/portobello-and-leith-community-wind-turbine.html
This project is being developed entirely by local volunteers from PEDAL Portobello and Greener Leith, but we hope it will be of benefit to the whole neighbourhood if we can pull it off!
Scotland on Sunday reports that Edinburgh’s Blipfoto is calling on all you photographers to submit photos of the Saltire this week, which they will then collate in a film to be shown on Burns night. We have our own Blipfoto account which has been a bit neglected, but then you can always load up the photos anytime – as long as they were all taken on a different day.
