Phil Hunt is the Pirate Party Scotland candidate for Meadows/Morningside Ward.

He told The Reporter:- “Phil Hunt is a computer programmer and internet entrepreneur who has lived in Meadows/Morningside ward since 2003.

Phil made the decision to become politically active during the expenses scandal in 2009, when he came to the conclusion that he was significantly more ethical and more competent than the people running the country. Others were thinking the same, and together they founded the Pirate Party.

Phil’s political interests include:

preventing governments from taking freedom away from the internet
the provision of more affordable housing
better and more integrated public transport

Outside of politics, Phil is involved with the Beltane Fire Society.

He has a website and this is what he tells us there:-

I’m Philip Hunt, a computer programmer living in Edinburgh. I’m a founder member of Pirate Party UK, and I recently stood for election to Edinburgh Council in the Liberton/Gilmerton ward — the by-election took place on the 9th of September.

The Pirate Party UK tells us that this is what they stand for:-

The Pirate Party UK is a democratic political party built on grassroots support and the work of volunteers.

We stand for Digital Rights, Civil Liberties and a politics fit for the 21st Century. We want a Britain where all can be part of our shared culture and economy.

We are a party with no parallel in British politics, wholly transparent to the public, accountable to our members and not dependent on external groups for our funding or direction.
