Ian Tranor is  a freelance graphic designer, based in Leith and he recently submitted a project to Kickstarter – a well known American crowd funding website that has just started accepting UK-based projects. He said:-“There is a link to Kickstarter below so your readers can see my project in more detail.

“Crowd funding is a relatively new concept, and as far as I can tell, my book is a unique concept so, along with the Kickstarter angle.

The Reporter had a look at the Kickstarter site and what Ian is producing is genuinely interesting. This is what he says on Kickstarter:-

“I had the original idea during one of those ‘designer’s block’ moments. I had The Beatles’ White Album playing in the background and Blackbird started playing. It struck me that it would be fun to illustrate a ‘blackbird singing in the dead of night’, so I designed a simple illustration and posted it on Facebook.

It became a bit of weekly fun, but proved to be quite popular and friends started to look out for my weekly post (and get quite competitive as to who could get the correct answer first!). Then someone suggested it would be a great idea to get them published. And so here I am, asking for your support to realise that idea and have a book of illustrations printed.

With your help, I hope to have a 125mm x 125mm (about 5 inches) 100 page book of 46 music-inspired illustrations produced (from the 60s through to contemporary artists) with a limited edition print run of 2,000 copies. Hand numbered, these will be litho printed on a premium, uncoated paper and perfect bound.” You can donate as little as £5 towards the project.
