There will be a Viking invasion of the National Museum of Scotland for the next RBS Museum Lates event on Friday 22 February.

Tickets go on sale today for the latest in the series of hot-ticket events, which have attracted sold out crowds each time they have been held so far.

The next event coincides with the Museum’s next major exhibition, Vikings!, which opens in January (www.nms.ac.uk/vikings). Live music in the Grand Gallery will come from Edinburgh indie-folk band Broken Records (http://4ad.com/artists/brokenrecords) and Shetland fiddle-player Chris Stoutt (who recently played on the soundtrack to the film Brave).

As with previous Lates events, the Vikings theme will be adapted in the entertainments, decoration, catering and, it is hoped that the audience will get into the spirit as well.

There will be a chance to come face to face with our resident Vikings and find out more about their weapons, clothes and crafts or pose for a photo. The event will also see the return of favourites such as the silent disco in the Imagine Gallery and pop-up bars in the Grand Gallery. There will be object handling, a chillout zone, themed workshops, performances and many other activities, including the chance to explore the galleries of the transformed Museum by night.

Capacity for the event will be 1,800 and there will be a limited number of combination tickets to see Vikings! Ticket holders can also book a table for dinner at the Museum’s Brasserie restaurant, with tables available from 5pm onwards.

Stephen Allen, Head of Learning and Programmes at National Museums Scotland, said:

RBS Museum Lates continue to be a tremendous success, with great attendance and feedback from the audience. We’re looking forward to embracing the Vikings theme and, judging by the response to Behind the Masque last time, I’m sure the audience will be as well.
