Police Commander for Edinburgh City Announced

The appointment of Chief Superintendent Mark Williams as the local police commander for City of Edinburgh has been announced today.

Chief Superintendent Williams, who has a wealth of experience policing the capital, has been appointed by Police Scotland Chief Constable Stephen House following consultation with The City of Edinburgh Council.

He said:- “I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity to play a key part in the new era of policing in Scotland. Tackling crime, supporting victims and working to protect the most vulnerable in our communities will be at the heart of everything the Edinburgh Division stands for.

“I am committed to building on the outstanding partnerships that already exist within the city and working with other agencies to prevent crime. Domestic abuse, violent crime and anti-social behaviour will be among my priorities.

“However I will also be listening to the people of Edinburgh and identifying and addressing their local priorities through the local policing plans for each council ward area.”

Chief Superintendent Williams joined Lothian and Borders Police in 1993. He served mainly in the capital, becoming the Superintendent for the busy city centre area which includes the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh Castle, other iconic sites and all the associated major events and parades.

In 2010, he was promoted to Chief Superintendent and became the Divisional Commander for East and Mid Lothian. Most recently he lead a project for the National Police Reform Team and is currently attending the Strategic Command Course. He will take up his new post in mid March.
