Launch of the Social Enterprise Strategy for Edinburgh 2013-2018

The new Edinburgh Social Enterprise Strategy is set to be launched today at local social enterprise, The Melting Pot, on Rose Street.

The event will be hosted by Cllr Maureen Child, Edinburgh’s Third Sector Champion.

The strategy, which was developed under the auspices of the Edinburgh Compact sets out how social enterprises will be supported to create a vibrant economy and improve lives across Edinburgh. Edinburgh Social Enterprise Network (ESEN) chaired the group that developed the strategy.

Linsay Chalmers, Network Coordinator at ESEN, said: “Edinburgh has always been seen as a leading city in terms of social enterprise in the UK. We have a fantastic, diverse range of social enterprises and were one of the first cities to produce a Social Enterprise Strategy in 2005. We are really excited about this ambitious new Strategy and the doors that it will open for social enterprises in Edinburgh.”

Fraser Kelly, Chief Executive of Social Enterprise Scotland, said:-“We strongly support the local development and support of social enterprises and the work of ESEN. The launch of this strategy will contribute to the growth of social enterprises and in turn to jobs and regeneration.”
