Win a Stay in one of the Newly Refurbished Travelodge hotels in Edinburgh

Ah! Edinburgh, not only does our beautiful city boast beautiful gothic architecture, rich history and warming, hearty food, but it’s also known around the world for its thriving cultural scene and has become internationally famous in part due to its status as a muse for writers, filmmakers and musicians alike.

Artists and creative types have been drawn to the cobbled streets of this stunning city for hundreds of years. Not only does the population here double every August when the Edinburgh Festival rolls into town, but J.K Rowling famously wrote the first chapters of Harry Potter in The Elephant House. Allegedly she couldn’t afford to heat her flat to keep the ferocious icy winds of winter at bay, and with a view of Edinburgh Castle out of the cafe’s rear window, it’s easy to see where her inspiration for the grandeur of Hogwarts might have come from.

Ian Rankin, Irvine Welsh, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson are among scores of writers who have used the streets of Edinburgh as a backdrop for their novels.

Edinburgh is just as likely to appear on screen these days as on the page. Directors and location scouts alike are drawn to the majestic scenery and the romantic views. But how well do you know your Edinburgh locations? Can you tell your Princes Street from your Grassmarket when it comes to famous film scenery?

In association with Travelodge we have a 2 night stay in a family room in one of their seven conveniently positioned Travelodge hotels in Edinburgh City Centre. Even if you live in Edinburgh it could be a fun night to stay  in a hotel – particularly as there are tickets for a show included in the prize!

For a chance to win, all you need to do is to tell us which famous movie from 2011 featured an important scene which took place at the location shown in the photograph below.

  1. As I am in a wheelchair and limited to where I can go, my wife and I just love staying at the travelodge. We had a great holiday last year at Paignton and stopped en route at Morecambe and then Gloucester- the best holiday we have had. Guess what – we are all booked again for this year. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us again this year, although air-conditioning would have been welcome last year with the heat. Have recommended this to loads of family and friends.
