Ski areas snowbound – Council webcasting – Stockbridge Market – Getting your rubbish collected – EdinburghReportage

Three of Scotland’s ski areas are reporting snowy and stormy conditions this morning, meaning that at present they are all closed. Get the details of the latest BBC weather forecast for the area here.

Any local skiers will have to look to the Pentland Hills for any snow-related fun today. Information on opening hours here. If it does snow however skiing is still restricted to the mat for safety reasons.

Edinburgh Council transmits live broadcasts of  some of its meetings. The most recent is the Petitions Committee on Thursday of last week and the next will be the full council meeting on 6 February. Entertain yourself with the film archive here.

Stockbridge Market takes place every Sunday on Saunders Street and today’s list of exhibitors and stallholders can be found here. Bad weather has only meant the cancellation of one market, otherwise the traders have plied their wares in all weathers since September 2011.

The Edinburgh Reporter has spotted several stray Christmas trees around the city in the past few days, a month after the main event. The council will collect properly presented trees.

If you have a brown bin or live in a brown bin area, you can still recycle your Christmas tree. To do so, please place your tree at the kerbside, next to your bin, by 6am on your next garden waste day. Collection days can be checked by entering an address or by postcode at the Green Box Day website.

Before recycling the tree

To enable trees to be recycled, residents are reminded to:

• Remove all decorations from the Christmas tree

• If the tree is 6ft tall or more, please cut it in half

• Do not place trees in plastic bags, as this means the council cannot recycle it

Check this directory for your rubbish, garden and food bin collection days. Grey lidded food waste bins are collected weekly and brown garden waste and green household bins alternate each week.

Bins should be on the kerbside for collection by 6am on your collection day and your bin will be uplifted no later than 10pm.

Check for disruptions to normal service at  www.edinburgh.gov.uk/wastechanges

To report a missed household bin collection or overflowing communal rubbish bins use the online form www.edinburgh.gov.uk/missedbin

Visit www.greenboxday.co.uk to check the collection days for blue and red recycling boxes. Please note that we do not publish communal bin collection days.
Sack collection days can be found here  http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/9591/kerbside_sack_waste_collections

Please call 0131 529 3030 for further assistance or email waste@edinburgh.gov.uk.
