We thoroughly enjoyed the showing of Top Gun on Friday night. Yes it was Valentine’s night so the film was suitably romantic, but also so appropriate for the airport setting!

The movie screen was set at the Royal Highland Showground car park, right next to the Easyjet and BA planes arriving and taking off. We were pleased at the efficient way the cars were ushered to a holding area before being asked to move into position for viewing the film. Certainly there is plenty of room for manoeuvring out there. Cars were organised like theatre seats, so that you were not immediately behind any one car but rather you had a free space right in front of you to allow for good visibility.

When we were settled in our parking space with sleeping bags and hot water bottles in place, even without the engine running we were very comfortable! The radio provided the sound for the film, tuning in to 87.7FM.

One tiny criticism was the lack of variety on screen for the time before the film started. By the time we had read the tweets (which were not live) and listened to Barry White once or twice it was enough.

Anyway that was all forgotten when the film started. The screen was clear, the sound was good, and we felt it was value for money. Itison who arranged the event say they have attracted 10,000 bookings this weekend over Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

We just wonder when is the next one please?
