A woman was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary yesterday following the discovery of a “hazardous substance” spilling inside a flat in Leith.

Emergency services were called to the fourth floor flat in Pattison Street, Leith, around 3.30pm and the road was closed to traffic.

Firefighters wearing what appeared to be hazard protection suits were seen entering the building.

A spokesman said: “A member of the public had alerted the ambulance service concerned that they may have come into contact with a hazardous substance.

“Police, fire and ambulance implemented a response taking standard precautions until the nature of the substance could be established.

“There are no health concerns for any other individuals who were within the address.”
