#CarefulNow – Pandacam – Enter our competitions – Jazz at The Usher Hall – Films in Portobello

In anticipation of the launch of Edinburgh Trams next month, the council has launched its safety campaign.  When The Edinburgh Reporter was on the tram recently it was pretty clear that all pedestrians think they can jaywalk in Edinburgh without fear. However the main difference about the tram is that it is silent. (apart from the bell that is!) So pedestrians and other road users are being urged to take care on the city streets and obey the green man.

Testing is now seven days a week and there will be many more trams travelling along the route from the airport to York Place in an effort to get enough hours and tests under their belt for the tram system to be given the green light.

Tom Norris, Edinburgh Trams Director & General Manager, said: “Testing and training have been going really well and it’s good to see that most people are interacting sensibly with the trams.

“Our drivers are driving very carefully to cope with the unpredictable behaviour of some road users, however. It’s vital that everyone heeds the warning bell and that people wait for the green man and don’t gamble.

“As we get ready to start testing seven days a week at a much greater frequency, we want to see the #carefulnow messages shared as widely as possible.”

Little point in trying to watch Pandacam at the moment since the camera has been switched off in the panda enclosure to allow Tian Tian and Yang Guang some privacy while they try to produce a little panda cub. You can of course watch our footage of the pandas on YouTube but perhaps more importantly you can watch the penguins!

The real stars of Edinburgh Zoo get on with being productive and entertaining here on the Penguincam!
