This week The Rt Hon Alan Duncan MP, Minister for International Development,  visited Holy Rood High School in connection with the Connecting Classrooms programme (a British Council programme, funded by DFID).

The school’s African Partnership has benefited over the years from grants from the British Council. This has enabled Holy Rood staff to visit Lombeta and vice versa.

The aims of Connecting Classrooms are:

· Enriching educational practice

· Building an equitable and sustainable partnership

· Increasing global citizenship

The Headteacher, Lorraine F Legrix said:-“I can say with confidence that this school has benefitted from the Programme. Connecting Classrooms has helped to nurture our African partnership which has been going for about 12 years. Our work has always been valued and valuable. However with CfE, it is now becoming even more significant. It is not an add-on to our curriculum but is becoming bedded into, and a natural part of our pupils’ learning experience.

“Within our new curriculum, we focus more and more on global citizenship and wider achievement. Our partnership with Tanzania, worthy in itself, is also an ideal opportunity for our pupils to develop into responsible citizens who contribute effectively and in so doing act out the values as set out in our school Mission Statement.”
