Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in the ground floor of a seven-storey building in Salamander Court in Leith at around 12.15am this morning.

Four appliances were sent from McDonald Road and Marionville stations and firefighters used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.

A man and woman suffered smoke inhalation.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “A man and a woman were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by paramedics. However, they did not require hospital treatment.”
