WHALE Snappers: anyone with an interest in black and white darkroom photography is welcome to come along to these monthly evening sessions led by a professional photographer.  All levels of experience welcome. 6-9pm, WHALE Arts, 30 Westburn Grove. £4 per session.

Titian in Ten: ten minute pop-up talks delivered by NGS staff.  Gain an exclusive insight as staff from across the galleries offer different perspectives on Titian’s masterpieces. 2pm, Scottish National Gallery, The Mound. Free and unticketed.

Art Week: if you love all things arts and crafty, come along to a wonderful Create session. Plenty to try, from portrait painting to animal mask making and everything in between, each day this week. 10am-12 noon for ages 5+, 2-4pm for ages 10+.  WHALE Arts, 30 Westburn Grove. Free, drop-in, no booking required.

Storytelling with Marie Louise Cochrane: a creative workshop for children and their families. Marie is a professional storyteller born, brought up and still resident in Edinburgh: come and listen to her weave wonderful tales. 11am-1pm, courtyard of St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church, George Street. Free drop-in session with juice and scones provided.

Wiff Waff Wednesday – Commonwealth Games night: Wiff Waff is a popular recreational and intergenerational monthly table tennis night, with the motto ‘friendship 1st, competition 2nd.’  To coincide with the opening of the Commonwealth Games, Wiff Waff is holding its own opening night ceremony. 6-10.30pm, Out of the Blue Drill Hall, 36 Dalmeny Street. All welcome.

Arts and Crafts: come along to these inspiring arts and crafts sessions to get creative and learn some new skills. Work with a range of different artists to create mini artworks using recycled materials. 10-10.50am for ages 9-12, 11-11.50am for ages 5-8. 50p per session. North Edinburgh Arts (next to Muirhouse Library.) Dance and Movement: a chance to work with different dance tutors to get active, play group games and have fun learning some dance styles. 10-10.50am for ages 9-12, 11-11.50am for ages 5-8. 50p per session. North Edinburgh Arts (next to Muirhouse Library.) Also available on Friday.

Love in a Library: pop-up opera in association with Edinburgh International Festival, featuring beautiful songs by Schumann, Schubert, Wagner, Quilter and Gershwin. 3-4pm, Morningside Library, 184 Morningside Road. Free.

Teen events at Moredun: different activities for teenagers, from X-Box tournaments to nail art. 6.30-7.30pm, Moredun Library, 92 Moredun Park Road.

Lunchtime concert: Piano Speak with Will Pickvance. 12.15pm, St Giles’ Cathedral, Royal Mile. Free.

South West Neighbourhood Summer of Sport: Get competitive!  Take part in this summer’s themed events and activities. 2.30pm, Currie Library, 210 Lanark Road. Part of the Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge.

Lari Don: award-winning children’s author shares her favourite myths and introduces some of the heroic and monstrous characters from her magical adventure stories set in the Scottish landscape. For ages 7-11. 2-3pm, Central Children’s Library, George IV Bridge. Booking essential via eventbrite: a place should be booked for each child and each parent/carer attending the event. Free. Storytime with the Dogs Trust: snuggle down and listen to doggy tales, get advice on safety around dogs and dog care. For ages 5+.  2.30-3.30pm, Oxgangs Library, 343 Oxgangs Road North.
