The Jawbone Arch has graced Middle Meadow Walk with its presence for just over a century, but the council decided recently to remove it for restoration.

The bones were removed earlier this week and will be stored for about six months to allow them to dry. Only after that will the repairs be carried out.

Fencing has been removed which will make life easier for cyclists and walkers getting through the Meadows around Festival time.

The works required to bring the bones back to good condition will cost just under £50,000 of which the council and Edinburgh World Heritage paid half. There is a shortfall in funding and you can help out by making even a small contribution.

For those who may wish to make cash donations to the fundraising appeal for conservation work to the Arch, this can be gifted:

Online: On Just Giving  search for the Meadows Jawbone Arch. You can give by credit or debit card and if you are a taxpayer your tax can be reclaimed.

By cheque: Please post or hand in to Edinburgh World Heritage, 5 Bakehouse Close, 146 Canongate, Edinburgh, EH8 8DD. Please mark the envelope ‘Jawbone’.
