Books in Focus: Surrealist Erotica. The ‘Books in Focus’ sessions focus on artists’ books held in the special collections of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. This session is a preview of some of the publications which will be included in a forthcoming display at Modern Two, featuring explicit Surrealist erotica by artists and writers including Hans Bellmer, Marcel Duchamp, Georges Bataille and the Marquis de Sade. Ghosts in a Gallery: the third incarnation of the Edinburgh International Festival’s highly successful pop-up performance series, exploring love in the face of extraordinary sacrifices and challenges faced during the First World War. Written for soprano, tenor and piano, it features some of the most poignant and beautiful art song and Leider from Western classical music. 2.30pm, Scottish National Portrait Gallery, 1 Queen Street.  Free and unticketed.

Scottish-based trio of Gavin Marwick (fiddle), Cameron Robson (cittern, jaw harp) and Ruth Morris (nyckelharpa), plundering Europe for strange and interesting tunes. The nyckelharpa is a traditional Swedish instrument rarely seen in the UK. 12.15pm, St Giles Cathedral, Royal Mile. Free.

GENERATION TG: The Travelling Gallery brings the work of five artists working in a range of media, including ceramics, textile wall hangings, digital animations, drawings, sculptures, film, performance and song, to various locations in Edinburgh this week. The exhibition focuses on what it is like to be a contemporary visual artist in Scotland and includes a film of artists talking about their work to pupils from Edinburgh schools.
