A petition has been set up and already has over 15,000 signatures demanding that David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband keep their promises to Scotland.

The petition reads:

Dear David Cameron, Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg:

As the Scottish referendum campaigns came to a head, you made the Scottish people a series of promises. They included:

  • new powers for the Scottish Parliament
  • the power to spend more on the NHS if Scotland wanted to
  • that the final decision on public services spending would stay in Scotland

Please stick to those promises on the timetable you agreed. Scotland won’t accept less.

You will find the petition here should you wish to add your voice. The goal is to get 25,000 signatures.

In light of the ‘settled will’ of the Scottish people the No vote of the overwhelming majority of Scots must be respected, but there are those who are sceptical of the promises made by Westminster in the last weeks of the pro-independence campaign.

Sir Menzies Campbell LibDem MP for North East Fife told The Edinburgh Reporter ahead of the vote last night that if the three main political parties do not deliver on these promises it would be ‘political suicide’. He said: “We are certainly going to have substantial reform of the constitution this year for the whole of the United Kingdom not just Scotland.”

  1. Sir Alex Salmond …

I think it would be `very nice` and most appropriate for Alex Salmond to receive an Honour for his over 25 years contribution to Scottish Politics, not only as First Minister of Her Majesty`s Scottish Government for over 7 years but also for his Leadership of the Scottish National Party for ten years.
I am guessing Mr Salmond may not feel it appropriate to receive a `U.K.` Title or Honour, considering the specific nature of his Life-long dream and work ie Scottish Independence of the rest of the U.K., but I really do feel that for him to receive from Her Majesty the Honour of (Knight of) The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle would be a just reward.
This is an order of Chivalry associated with Scotland. The current version of the Order was founded in 1687 by King James VII of Scotland (James II of England and Ireland) and The Sovereign alone grants membership of the Order; Her Majesty is not advised by the (Westminster) Government, as occurs with most other Orders and is granted at Her Pleasure !!
The Order’s primary emblem is the thistle, the national flower of Scotland. The motto is Nemo me impune lacessit (Latin for “No one provokes me with impunity”).[1] The same motto appears on the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom for use in Scotland and some pound coins, and is also the motto of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, Scots Guards, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada and Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. The patron saint of the Order is St Andrew.
Most British Orders of Chivalry cover the whole United Kingdom, but the three most exalted ones each pertain to one constituent country only. The Order of the Thistle, which pertains to Scotland, is the second-most senior in precedence. Then there is i`ts equivalent in England, …The Most Noble Order of the Garter, and is the oldest documented order of chivalry in the United Kingdom, dating to the middle fourteenth century. …And in 1783 an Irish equivalent, The Most Illustrious Order of St Patrick, was founded, (but has now fallen dormant).
So, since each Order pertains to one constituent country only, then the Order of the Thistle, which pertains only to Scotland, would be most appropriate for our First Minister, Alex Salmond.
Knights of the Thistle prefix “Sir”, and Wives of Knights may prefix “Lady” to their surname. `Lady` Salmond would be a nice honour for Alex Salmond`s quiet, unassuming and devoted wife, Moira.
Let`s Hear It For `Sir` Alex Salmond !!

  2. Give England our own Regional Assembly ….. Use the MPs elected for Regional and National Parliament. No need for another band of Government !
UK National Parliament – Westminster Venue – All Regional Assemblies come together on a monthly agenda.
Regional Assemblies – First Ministers for each of Scotland, England, Wales, N Ireland – all to have a three week agenda.
National Parliament – discuss issues that concern the whole of the UK, such as defence, NHS, Schools etc. Set guidance only for tax raising of social security, national insurance, VAT, capital gains, housing benefits, job creation etc. The UK National Parliament discusses and agrees the permitted percentage tax flexibility set for all Regional Assemblies.
Regional Assemblies – directed by the UK National Parliament guidlines, each Regional Assembly is free to set all tax within its region subject to the UK National Parliaments flexible percentages. Voters will judge MPs at subsequent General Elections.
However Labour will never agree because Labour today has few MPs in England. Today the Scottish Labour MPs are voting on English affairs. Milliband will try and stop the formation of an English Assembly because Labour will have little voice in an English Assembly. Reason for Milliband blocking Regional Assmbly for England is because 51 Labour MPs will be removed to a Scottish Assembly. Take note Mr Miliband the electorate is watching and Farage will walk over your Labour Party. England wants a Regional Assembly and no more muddling and time wasting. Where is England’s democracy ?

  3. Scottish Independence is not dead just merely postponed and Independence movement is more stronger now than ever. Westminster is far to remote and out of touch with peoples thinking it took a promise to keep the UK together and that promise will bring about its demise! Yes Candidates will start with 45% of the Vote come next may and we will look to add 5% + this will give us every seat in Scotland and will be Repeated 2016. A Declaration of Independence can take place after either one!
