Hoeyyn Arts Gallery in Edinburgh’s Old Town announces its latest exhibition of new works by resident artist Hoeyyn Ngu entitled “How Many Lives”.

How Many Lives consists a series of paintings incorporating western painting techniques, Chinese calligraphy and natural leaves. Questioning what we looking for throughout our life, from the perspective of many life times and also in a broad view of the lives of many people. The artist has approached the works from the viewpoint that while we are of different cultures and origins there is some fundamental human desire to seek happiness and all our efforts in life are geared towards that goal.

The exhibition opens on 22nd February 2015 in conjunction with the start of the Chinese New Year on 19th February 2015. In this New Year of the Sheep/Goat the artist hopes the works will help people contemplate their true desires out of life.

The juxtaposition of Eastern and Western styles of Art in the works and the mix of cultures in Edinburgh demonstrate the different approaches to gleaning what we truly desire out of life. While we all have a list of goals and New Years resolutions the artist believes they all distill to the universal desire to be happy whether we be rich or poor, eastern or western, religious or agnostic.

The opening will be heralded by Chinese drumming and a Lion Dance at around 12:00 PM on the 22nd of February 2015 and is open to the public. The gallery will also host four public events during the following week The Art of Chinese Tea, The Art of Chinese Music, The Art of Chinese Calligraphy and the Art of Chinese Language. The events are free but booking is essential as space is limited. The schedule of events will be announced on the HoeyynArts Facebook page shortly (https://www.facebook.com/HoeyynArts) and on the twitter feed @hoeyynarts.
