Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery in the Gorgie area last night.

The incident occurred at a beauty salon in Gorgie Road just before 8pm, while the lone female owner was closing up.  Two men entered, struggled with the 64-year-old woman, during which they threatened her with a knife.

During the robbery, the woman’s son attended.  He was also threatened with the knife, but was not harmed.

The two suspects left with premises in possession of an amount of cash and a laptop.  The woman sustained minor bruising.

Officers are now eager to trace the men responsible.  The first suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s.  He is around 6ft in height, thin build, short dark hair, thin face with a large pointed nose, thick eyebrows and brown eyes.

He was wearing a blue puffer jacket and a scarf covering his mouth.  He also spoke with a local accent.

The second suspect is also described as a white man, thin build and around 5ft10” in height.  He was wearing a dark waterproof jacket with white stripe down the middle, dark coloured skinny jeans and dark trainers with white soles.

Detective Inspector John Kavanagh said:  “The victim was subjected to a violent assault during the robbery, it was a frightening attack on a lone woman.

“We are keen to trace these suspects as quickly as possible.  Anyone who may have seen the attack, or who recognises the description of the men involved, is asked to contact Police Scotland immediately.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
