2011_10 Police signs 12

Police are appealing for information in connection with an assault and robbery on a city cycle path.

The incident happened on Wednesday, April 22, at around 7:50pm on the seven-road cycle path junction near Trinity.

A 15 and 16-year-old were cycling on the route when they noticed two youths on a motorcycle travelling from the direction of Ainslie Park heading towards Leith. The vehicle stopped nearby, turned and then approached them. The motorbike passenger dismounted and grabbed one of the victims by the throat before demanding he hand over his bicycle. The driver of the motorbike also demanded that the bikes be handed over.

One of the suspects was then seen walking away with both bikes towards Lower Granton Road while the other male took off on the motorbike in the same direction. One of the suspects was seen a short time later on Lomond Road before cycling on to Trinity Crescent.

The stolen bikes are described as a Merida Matts mountain bike with a black frame and green pedals, and a rust coloured Mafia BMX with silver front forks and silver handle bars.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who can help with their ongoing enquiries to trace the two males responsible.

They are described as being white and aged around 14-16 years-old. One of the suspects was wearing a black hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and had short shaved blonde/brown hair while the other wore a grey hooded top, grey jogging bottoms and dark eyebrows.

Detective Constable Richard Emerson said: “This was an extremely distressing ordeal for the victims and I would like to take this opportunity to ask anyone who recognises the descriptions or remembers seeing the suspects in this area to contact police on 101.”
