High Court

Five men who carried out an armed robbery at a city centre bank have today been convicted.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Aaron Brannan (23), Jason Britton (22), Jason Yendall (29), Gordon McLay (31) and Alistair Oliver (30) pled guilty to the incident, which happened on Thursday 2nd October 2014.

The five men entered the Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Tollcross at around midday and brandished axes at the staff within the premises before making off with almost £20,000 in cash.

All of these individuals were also sentenced in court today for their involvement in the robbery at Glasgow’s Argyle Arcade in September last year.

They will be sentenced for the RBS robber on July 9th.

Detective Inspector Stuart Harkness from Edinburgh CID said: “The incident within the Tollcross RBS in October last year was a terrifying experience for the staff and customers who were within the branch at the time.

“Thankfully no one was injured, however, a large sum of cash was taken and a major investigation was launched to trace those responsible.

“Once it had been confirmed the same men had been involved in the Glasgow robbery, officers in Edinburgh worked closely with colleagues in the west and all of the suspects were apprehended.

“Their conviction is not only testament to the success of joint policing activity as part of Police Scotland, but also to our commitment to working alongside the Crown Office to bring offenders for these type of crimes to justice.”
