A young Hibs side completed their pre-season programme with a 0-0 draw against Ayr United at Somerset Park last night without Head Coach Alan Stubbs who was at Ibrox assessing Rangers ahead of Saturday’s Petrofac Training Cup tie.

John Doolan and Andy Holden took charge and named a combination of first-team and development players.

In a low key first half, Sam Stanton went close twice but other than that neither keeper was tested,

Hibs brought on six substitutes at half time but even this failed to ignite the match although both sides had chances.

Ayr’s keeper Shaun Newman did well to save an Alex Harris (pictured) free kick before  Jordan Sinclair hit the top of the bar from the edge of the box.

Ex Hibs striker Ross Caldwell hit the post for United then just before full time Callum Crane almost grabbed a winner with a header from an Aaron Dunsmore cross.

Elsewhere Stubbs watched a new look Rangers side lose 1-0 to Burnley thanks to a goal from former Falkirk midfielder Scott Armfield.

The clubs meet on Saturday in the first round of this years Petrofac Cup at Easter Road.
