Meanwhile, Hearts have been drawn at home to League Two side Arbroath in the first round of the League Cup. First round ties are scheduled for 1 August but with Hearts now in the Ladbrokes Premiership, this tie will have to be re-arranged. Hearts will announce details of this in due course.

The present format of having the team promoted to the Premiership having to play in the first round of the League Cup – while the team relegated receives a bye – is something the SPFL say they will address for next season.

Tickets for Hearts trip to Preston North End for another pre-season friendly on Saturday week go on sale at Tynecastle on Wednesday. Prices are £10 for adults, £7.50 for over 65s and £5 for under 16s.
