Hibs Development squad beat Lowland League Selkirk 3-2 at Yarrow Park yesterday. Goals from Conner Duthie, Jordan Sinclair and Adam Watson secured the victory and the travelling supporters were treated to a goal from former Hibs’ striker Garry O’Conner from the penalty spot.

After the game Development Squad Coach Joe McBride told the club website:  “We gave the ball away far too much for my liking today, and Selkirk saw too much possession and just that we were playing against an ex-international forward who caused us problems with his physique and winning balls in the air.

“So it’s a lesson for them there, that when they come up against someone who is stronger and good in the air, that they can’t go and compete with them all the time.

“They’ve got to solve that problem in other ways. We deliberately never said anything from the dugout to see if they could do that and they never done so, so that’s a lesson for them.

“But in general terms I thought we were a wee bit sloppy and gave the ball away too easily today.

“Selkirk were a step up in class, and without being disrespectful I assume Brentford will be another big step up. We will need to be at it on Friday against Brentford.

“I have been reasonably pleased with the pre-season so far, but we were just a wee bit sloppy today.”
