Saska
A West Lothian woman whose dog was found to be extremely thin has been convicted following a Scottish SPCA investigation.
Theresa Leggat, 23, of Newlands Court, Bathgate, was sentenced at Livingston Sheriff Court on Monday (3 August).
Leggat pled guilty to causing her husky type dog, named Saska, unnecessary suffering by failing to take her to a vets for a period of three weeks, contrary to the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
Leggat was fined £270 and banned from owning more than one dog for five years.
Commenting on the investigation and court case, Inspector Jenni Surgeon said, “Saska’s ribs, spine and pelvic bones were easily felt through her coat.
“We took her to a vets where she was given a body condition score of two out of nine, with one being emaciated.
“Saska was put on a weight-gain programme in our care and made an excellent recovery. She has since been rehomed to a loving new owner.”
