Award-winning character comedian Susan Harrison (CBBC’s DNN: Definitely Not Newsround & Showstopper: The Improvised Musical) presents a funny and uplifting show about love, youth and words.

Jennie Benton Smith is a 15 year old rapper and spoken word artist from Tunbridge Wells who is on a quest to bring her show to anyone who will listen. With best friend the endearing “Auburn Joe” (Dylan Kennedy) by her side she spits a whole heap of rhymes, and covers an eclectic mix of subjects, from her stick insect ”Skrillex” to the nature of true love. But will she ever get to the end of her performance with a lost hype man, technical problems and a heartbreaking Facebook revelation to contend with? And will the seemingly shy Auburn Joe ever admit his true feelings for her?

Since training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Susan Harrison has performed three comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, been awarded ThreeWeeks Editors’ Choice Award 2010, written and performed characters for CBBC’s BAFTA nominated sketch show Definitely Not Newsround (DNN). She runs alternative, character-comedy night Cabarera and her podcast Susan Harrison’s Back Row has featured character comedians including Gemma Arrowsmith, Barry From Watford, Pippa Evans and Thomas Nelstrop.

Highly regarded as an improviser, Susan is a cast member of the award winning Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, Monkey Toast (the improvised chat show) and new improvised show, BEINGS (Cowgatehead – 5:15pm, 22nd-28th August). Other theatre credits include Home East Lothian (National Theatre of Scotland), Bagpuss (Soho Theatre), Hansel & Gretel (Barbican) and, most recently, Elephantom (National Theatre at the New London Theatre).

Jennie Benton Wordsmith has been directed by Beckie Mills (Horizon: National Theatre Connections at the Soho Theatre, Take the Stage: Donmar Warehouse and The Comedy of Errors Remixed: RSC).
