2011_10 Police signs 12

Police are appealing for witnesses following a sexual assault which happened around 10.30pm yesterday at the junction of Craiglockhart Road and Craiglockhart Quadrant.

A 21-year-old woman was walking home when a male approached her from behind and indecently assaulted her.

A struggled ensued and the victim forced the male off, who then ran off onto Craiglockhart Road.

Detectives are now urging anyone who can assist with their ongoing inquiry to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 7ins tall with a slim build. He was wearing a grey hooded top and dark tracksuit bottoms.

Detective Chief Inspector Alwyn Bell said: “This was a terrifying incident for the young woman and thankfully she was able to fend her attacker off before she came to any serious harm.

“I would ask anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity within Craiglockhart Road or the wider Craiglockhart area on Wednesday night contacts police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect or who has information that can help us locate him is asked to get in touch.”
