In her first ever solo show, Edinburgh artist Rosie Playfair will be exhibiting a range of eclectic paintings and drawings at Urbane Art Gallery, Jeffrey Street from 17  October to 1 November 2015.

Nearly thwarted by a shoulder injury which threatened to halt her painting career, Rosie has battled on and produced a large body of work ranging from her trademark trees to nudes.

Tracey Roxburgh, director of Urbane Art Gallery says: ”Rosie Playfair’s paintings have always been successful at our gallery, and we have sold 15 of them over the last few months. It is due to popular demand that we are giving her her first solo show. We are very excited to see how it goes.”

Rosie, who originally graduated from Dundee Art College in graphic design, describes her art as ’designerly’ rather than ’painterly’, but admits that a low boredom threshold means that she experiments with styles and scale: ”Urbane Art Gallery has been very good at letting me develop my styles, as long as the customers are still enjoying them. I get bored easily so I need to keep varying what I do. I could never paint just one style or subject all the time, but by experimenting it keeps it creative, fresh and enjoyable for me, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Urbane has given me. The calcified tendons in my shoulder did cause a few problems with the larger canvasses, but luckily it seems to be healing itself now.”

Rosie Playfair has also exhibited in other galleries throughout Scotland this year and, as well as Urbane Gallery, her work can be seen in the GreenGallery’s Christmas exhibition and at the Edinburgh Art Fair. Her work is held in collections in London, Paris, St Tropez, Italy and throughout Scotland.
