2011_10 Police signs 12

Police are looking to trace two men following a break-in and robbery at an address in Morningside late last night.

The incident happened at around 11:30pm on Friday, October 30th, at an address on Morningside Drive near to its junction with Plewlands Terrace.

The elderly occupier had retired to bed when the suspects forced entry into his house.  They entered his bedroom and demanded that he hand over money. A brief altercation ensued resulting in the man sustaining injuries to his head and hand.

The pair fled taking with them a small amount of money and electronic items.

An extensive investigation is now underway in an effort to trace and arrest the suspects.

They are described as male, white, spoke with local accents, around 18-years-old, wearing dark clothing with hooded tops and scarves underneath partially covering their faces.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Maclean who is leading the investigation said: “Although the homeowner in this case escaped serious injury, this was an extremely frightening experience for him to endure.

“An extensive investigation is underway in an effort to trace the two suspects responsible and I am today urging anyone who may have seen them or anybody acting suspiciously in the Morningside  area either before or after this incident to come forward.

“There will be an increased police presence in and around Morningside Drive while officers search the area and carry out door-to-door enquiries. Uniformed officers will be visible to reassure the public and answer any questions they might have.

“Anyone who recognises the description of the suspects or has information relevant to our ongoing investigation can contact police on 101 or, alternatively through the registered charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
