2011_10 Police signs 12

Police in are investigating following a serious assault in Picardy Place which occurred on Saturday morning around 3am when the 23-year-old male victim left a nightclub in Picardy Place.

He walked towards Leith Walk before stopping to speak to a man.  The man was then seen to assault the 23-year-old, which caused him to fall to the ground.  The male suspect then walked away in the direction of Leith Walk.

The victim sustained a facial injury and was taken the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for assessment.  He was later transferred to St John’s Hospital, Livingston, for further treatment.

Officers are now investigating this incident and are appealing for information.

The suspect is described as a white man, between 25-30 years old, with a medium build.  He is around 5ft 6″ – 5ft 7″ in height with short dark hair.  He also has a round face and was sporting stubble.

He was believed to be wearing a dark navy or black blazer, a checked shirt and dark denim jeans. He may have been in the same nightclub as the victim.

Detective Constable Joe Perkins said:  “This was a violent assault, which has left the victim with a significant facial injury that will require further treatment.

“We would ask anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack, or who recognises the suspect description, to get in touch with us immediately.”
