Police are appealing for information to help trace a man reported missing in the Morningside area of the city.

William Sutherland was due to return to the Royal Edinburgh Hospital at 6pm on Saturday 14th November but failed to show up.

Since then, the 42-year-old has not been seen and has not been in contact with friends or family.  Officers have been carrying out search activity throughout Edinburgh over the past six days and are now urging members of the public to come forward if they believe they have seen William.

William is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall with a medium build, black mullet-style hair and a goatee beard. He was last seen wearing a black Nike t-shirt, dark anorak with a camouflage pattern, black jogging bottoms and blue Nike trainers.

Inspector Richard Cockbain from Howdenhall Police Station said: “William has been missing for almost a week now and in that time we have conducted numerous lines of inquiry across the city, but have been unable to trace him.

“We want to establish his whereabouts as soon as possible to ensure he is safe and well and I would ask that anyone who can assist us with our efforts to locate William, contacts police immediately.

“I would also ask that if William sees this appeal then he make contact with police, or with someone he trusts so we can confirm he is alright.”
