Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was robbed around 11:30pm on Tuesday evening.

The 26-year-old was walking alone on Eyre Place, heading in the direction of Broughton Road when she became aware of a man walking closely behind her.

Moments later he pushed the woman and grabbed the phone out of her hand before running off.

Officers are now carrying out various lines of inquiry in an effort to trace the unknown male and are now seeking the assistance of the public.

The male is described as white, between 20-30 years-old, around 5ft 9ins tall and with a medium build.

Detective Constable Alison Wyllie said: “Fortunately the woman did not sustain injury but she has been left shaken by this incident.

“I ask anyone who was in the area around the time of this robbery and who has information that might assist with our ongoing inquiry to contact police immediately on 101 or, alternatively the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
