Two men have been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act after police in Edinburgh recovered over £30,000 worth of drugs during an intelligence-led operation.

On Tuesday 22nd December officers carried out a search of a property in MacGill Drive, in the Murirhouse, area where 190grams of heroin and a kilo of cannabis were seized along with £15,000 in cash.

A subsequent search of a car resulted in the recovery of a further 70grams of heroin. The cannabis is valued at around £10,000 and the heroin is worth an estimated £25,000.

Two 28-year-olds will appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Detective Inspector Alan O’Brien from Edinburgh CID said: “This is another significant recovery of harmful substances, which again demonstrates our commitment to tackling drug crime in Edinburgh.

“Intelligence from our communities has resulted in a successful policing operation and sends a clear message that neither the police, nor the public will tolerate serious and organised crime.

“We will act on any information relating to criminal activity and if you would like to report ongoing offences in your area then you can do so by contacting us on 101 or by making an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
