Hibs’ Head Coach Alan Stubbs is looking to the future with the signing of Finnish goalkeeper Otso Virtanen on a three and a half year deal.

The 21-year-old  joined from Finnish Premier Division side IFK Mariehamn, and has represented the national under 21 squad on several occasions.

Virtanen will provide competition for current first choice goalkeeper Mark Oxley who has been in fine form this season but calls into question the future of Antonio Reguero who is second choice keeper.

The 6ft 5in goalkeeper becomes Hibernian’s fifth signing of the January transfer window, following the additions of Chris Dagnall, Niklas Gunnarsson, Anthony Stokes and Kevin Thomson.

Head Coach Alan Stubbs said: “Otso is someone we’ve been tracking for a while and I’m delighted that we have concluded the deal.

“He is a keeper with lots of potential that we’re looking forward to developing.

“I’m sure he’ll be another positive addition to the first team squad.”
