Police  have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to trace as part of their inquiry into an assault on Lothian Road.

The incident happened around 9.20pm on 5th December, when a 37-year-old man was assaulted when he attempted to intervene in an altercation between man and a woman.

Detectives believe the male pictured within the CCTV image is of interest to this investigation and would ask anyone who recognises him to come forward.

He is described as white, late twenties to early thirties, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 8ins tall, with short dark hair that was longer on the top and styled with gel. He was wearing black clothing.

Detective Constable Alison Wyllie said: “This victim sustained a serious and painful injury to his ankle while trying to come to the aid of a female and we are continuing with our inquiries to trace the male responsible for this assault.”

“We are keen to trace the man pictured in these images to assist our inquiries and anyone who can help us establish his identity should contact police immediately.”
