Concerns are increasing for the safety 73-year-old Thomas Davidson  who has gone missing from a sheltered housing complex in Esk Place Dalkeith.

He was last seen at about 9pm on Tuesday after telling carers that he was going for a walk before heading off in the direction of Lugton Brae.

The police helicopter and uniformed  search teams have been utilised in the search for Mr Davidson who suffers from Parkinson’s Disease.

Mr Davidson is around 6ft but walks with a stoop, which makes him appear shorter. He has a slim build, short thin grey hair and was wearing a large navy blue coat, which has two pockets on the chest, dark grey flannel trousers and most likely dark shoes or trainers.

Chief Inspector Kenny Simpson told STV News  “With the adverse weather conditions and as time goes on, our concern grows. Thomas is a fit individual. While he suffers from Parkinson’s, he likes to go out walking. I would appeal for the public to be vigilant.

“We are searching in places like Dalkeith Country Park and other areas. We’d ask people to be aware and to be alert.”

Mr Simpson said Mr Davidson may have taken shelter in outbuildings or sheds.

He added: “There is rugged terrain and there are a couple of rivers nearby. That gives us cause for concern.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101
