  • First Minister re-elected
  • City Centre Neighbourhood Partnership meeting
  • Royal Yacht Britannia in Tripadvisor’s top ten
  • Volunteers needed for Meadows Festival
  • New Brunstane consultation later today

The First Minister was re-elected yesterday by her fellow MSPs. The vote included a large number of abstentions from those who did not vote for either Nicola Sturgeon or Willie Rennie the Liberal Democrat leader who stood against her. As the LibDems have slipped to the smallest political group in the chamber it is difficult to believe that this was ever going to be  any more than a lost cause.

The First Minister is likely to appoint her new cabinet from today.

All of the Edinburgh MSPs have now settled in to their new workplace and we hope to meet some of them there later this week to tell you what they will be getting up to.

The City Centre Neighbourhood Partnership meeting will take place on 26 May 2016 from 5.45pm and will discuss Tenement Living. There will be information stalls, presentations and hope to come up with an action plan for the Neighbourhood Partnership to follow.

With Britannia in eighth place and Edinburgh Castle in fourth, Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive at VisitScotland, commented, “Scotland’s history and heritage attract millions of visitors from around the world and top attractions in Edinburgh such as these are why the Scottish capital remains a must-visit destination for travellers.”

The EDI Group Limited , the Edinburgh based property development and investment group, will share its proposed masterplan for New Brunstane with the community at a second event on 18 May at the King’s Manor Hotel.

This will complete the pre-application consultation activity relating to the land at Brunstane in Edinburgh and will showcase the final proposals intended to be submitted for a planning permission in principle.

Local residents, politicians and community groups are invited to attend the event today Wednesday 18 May from 3pm to 8pm at the King’s Manor Hotel, Milton Road East and see  how the comments and feedback received at pre-application consultations have informed the New Brunstane masterplan development.

Eric Adair, from The EDI Group Ltd, said: “We welcomed the fact that almost 300 people attended our first event to find out more and to share their views on EDI’s emerging vision for the proposed New Brunstane masterplan.

“This second event will be an opportunity for local community and residents to see how the feedback from all consultation has informed the final masterplan proposals before we submit our planning application.

“It is our aspiration that the masterplan for New Brunstane will introduce a new green and well-designed neighborhood into the east of Edinburgh, delivering homes, green open spaces, public amenities and a local primary school, as well as creating over 2000 jobs during the lifetime of the development.”

For anyone who cannot attend this pre-application community consultation event, the final masterplan proposals will be on display at Portobello Library from 19-23 May and thereafter at the White House in Craigmillar, from 23-26 May.

In addition to this the masterplan proposals will be available online at www.edigroup.co.uk/new-brunstane.
