Following a great match on Saturday afternoon at Hampden there was a pitch invasion involving fans of both teams, resulting in damage to the Hibs’ goalposts, the pitch and also injury to some fans. The aftermath was such that Hibs footballers could not enjoy a lap of honour on the pitch. Police horses were called onto the pitch to control the situation.

Police ScotlandĀ are now asking for help from the public who were at the match to assist them in identifying those responsible. We have seen many photographs on social media and across newspaper sites on the internet at fairly high resolution which should ensure that some at least are caught.

Chief Superintendent Kenny MacDonald said:Ā ā€œAn investigation team has now been established at Helen Street Police Office.Ā  So far there have been 11 arrests for minor offences.

“Officers are in the process ofĀ collecting CCTV footage and collating the information that has been gathered at this stage as they try to identify those responsible for the disorder and violence on the pitch.

ā€œAs our investigation progresses I have no doubt that additional arrests will be made and would appeal to anyone with information that may assist police enquiries to come forward.

If there are any images or video footage of incidents on the pitch involving violence or disorder, please contact officers at the enquiry team through the non-emergency number 101.Ā  Alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.ā€

A victory parade will start from the High Street at 3.30pm this afternoon and will follow a route by North Bridge, Leith Walk and will end at Leith Links.
