The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog was dumped in a van outside the Albert Buildings on the main street of Westfield in Bathgate.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Thursday (19 May) after a member of the public noticed suspicious activity before finding the dog inside his van.

The female Saluki cross dog is now in the care of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Balerno where staff have named her Roxy.

Inspector Alastair Adams said, “The member of the public noticed a male running away from his parked red transit van around 6pm.

“The male was seen going into the back seat of a gold Saab estate car. There was another dog in the boot of the car and two males in the driver and passenger seats.

“The vehicle drove off at high speed and after the gentleman went to investigate, he discovered Roxy sitting in his front seat.

“Roxy is a young and extremely friendly dog who is in good health. She is black with tan face markings and a white chest and was wearing a brown leather collar.

“We are very keen to trace the men who dumped her in this way and would ask anyone with information to contact us on 03000 999 999.”

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
