TER Scottish Cup visits Festival Square 13

Edinburgh’s Lord Provost has congratulated Hibernian Football Club on their historic Scottish Cup win and given the go-ahead on plans for a public celebration.

Today the Edinburgh team beat Rangers 3-2 at Hampden in a nail-biting Scottish Cup Final – the first time the Easter Road club has brought the Scottish Cup home since 1902.

To celebrate the historic victory, the Provost will host a private reception for Hibernian Football Club within the Lothian Chambers tomorrow before the players embark on a public victory parade through the streets of Edinburgh.

Players will board a gold open-top bus with the Scottish Cup at the Lothian Chambers before heading down the High Street and on towards Leith, with the parade ending at Leith Links.

The route of the parade is: Lawnmarket – High Street – North Bridge – Princes St – Leith St – Picardy Place – Leith Walk – Constitution Street – Queen Charlotte St – John’s Place – Duncan Place – Leith Links

Lord Provost Donald Wilson said: “What a historic victory for Hibernian Football Club! Many congratulations to Hibs for bringing the Scottish Cup home.  No matter what colour scarf you wear or where you live, I’m sure all football fans in the city will recognise this is a time for celebration. I think it’s fair to say the weather forecast is for sunshine on Leith this Sunday.”

Plans for the parade were discussed and have been jointly approved by the Council, Police Scotland, emergency services, Hibernian Football Club and Lothian Buses. It is anticipated that there will be a degree of disruption to traffic while the event is ongoing, however every effort will be made by the police to keep this to a minimum.
