Police have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to trace as part of an investigation into a serious assault which took place around 2 am on 24th April 2016 in the Pilrig Street area when a 31-year-old man was struck to the face and sustained a broken jaw.

Officers are eager to trace the man pictured, as he may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as a white man, 5 ft 8 inches tall, in his 20’s, with a slim/medium build.

He had short blonde or ginger hair, an Edinburgh accent and was wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Iain Wallace of Gayfield said: “The victim was subjected to a violent and unprovoked assault while walking back from a night out with his friend.

“The man pictured is believed to be of significance to our investigation, and I’d urge anyone who may recognise him to come forward.”
