Some exciting events are coming up at Bridgend Farmhouse, Old Dalkeith Road on the edge of Craigmillar Country Park.  BIG (Bridgend Inspiring Growth) Open Day and AGM June 5 from 11am to 4.30pm. This will include: drop-in work on site from 11am-3pm; birdsong and guided walk in Craigmillar woods at 12 noon; tile engraving; bench restoration; tours of the farmhouse and site; BIG Lunch at 2pm; AGM from 3-4.30pm with chance to join the committee. There’s a demo meeting of a proposed new public speaking club run by Toastmasters International in Portobello  on Wednesday, 22 June  from 19:15 to 21:30 at the Dalriada – 77 Promenade, EH15 2EL. Toastmasters clubs transform lives by helping people gain confidence and boost public speaking and leadership skills. The initial meeting is free and as Toastmasters is a not for profit organisation, membership rates are kept low to cover training materials and room hire. Jupiter Artland has opened its beautiful gates on its 2016 programme, presenting a series of exhibitions, performances, unique temporary installations and new permanent works for the landscape.

This year’s programme includes:

2 new permanent commissions: Christian Boltanski’s first outdoor work in the UK, and a new work for the orchard by Alec Finlay

Songbirds creating music with electric guitars, by French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot
The renowned work, Piss Flowers, by the late Turner-prize nominee Helen Chadwick
The opportunity to record your own heartbeat – that will form Christian Boltanski’s ongoing project o Mammoth wicker baskets, created by Danish artist Ditte Gantriis, for the Ballroom
A new temporary installation by French artist Caroline Mesquita, by the duck pond
A new floor-based work by Glasgow-based Hayley Tompkins
Sound and Nature: an expanded events programme for this year
Ambitious developments for Jupiter’s Learning Programme including the launch of Jupiter as a digital world with Jupiter Artland: In Minecraft.

Jupiter Artland, the award-winning sculpture garden, was founded by Robert & Nicky Wilson and houses an extensive collection of contemporary outdoor sculpture located across 100 acres of woodland and meadows just outside of Edinburgh. Since opening in 2009, Jupiter Artland has commissioned more than 30 site-specific works by leading artists, including Antony Gormley, Charles Jencks, Anish Kapoor, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Anya Gallaccio, Andy Goldsworthy and Cornelia Parker, and they continue to expand the extraordinary setting with new commissions. All ticket sales for Jupiter Artland go directly towards supporting the Jupiter Artland Foundation.
