Former Norwich City striker Grant Holt is training with Hibs after being released by Rochdale.

Hibs’ Head Coach Neil Lennon confirmed today that the experienced striker is the type of player he hopes to bring to the club as he prepares to build a squad capable of gaining promotion.

Lennon told BBC Scotland: “He is in for talks. He is a player I like and I have known him for a while.

“He is the type of player I would like to bring to the club. He has great experience and a physical presence that we probably lacked a bit last year.”

“He knows his way around a football pitch and he has great enthusiasm still for the game

“People will look at his age, but he hasn’t played much football over the last few years, whether that be through injury or manager’s choice.

“So I think, at 35, he has got plenty in him yet. He feels that as well, so with a bit of luck, maybe we can get a deal done, but I don’t know yet.”

Holt began his career with Workington and also played for Halifax Town, Sorrento, Barrow, Sengkang Marine, Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest, Blackpool and Shrewsbury Town before joining Norwich.

He spent four years at Carrow Road, where his goals made him a firm favourite with supporters after helping  City to the Premier League.

He moved to Wigan in 2013 and had loan spells with Aston Villa, Huddersfield Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers before joining Rochdale in February where he made 14 appearances, but only three starts, scoring twice.
