Police  are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in Leith which happened in a betting shop on Portland Place around 8.40am this morning.

A man followed the shop worker inside before threatening him with a knife and demanding money. The suspect then left the shop with a three figure sum of cash. He is described as white, around 5ft 10in tall, thin build with a dark coloured beard.

He was wearing a dark coloured bomber jacket, dark trousers, dark shoes, a dark coloured beanie hat and dark coloured gloves.

Detective Sergeant Keith Fairbairn, of Gayfield Police Station, said: “We’re appealing for anyone who might’ve seen a man fitting this description hanging outside the shop around 8.40am, or in the area afterwards.”
