Police in the Scottish Borders are appealing for witnesses after someone attempted to set fire to a fixed safety camera on the A68.

The incident happened sometime between Friday July 22nd and Monday July 25th on a stretch of road around two miles north of Earlston, near the turnoff for Birkenside.

Local officers are now carrying out inquiries to find the person responsible.

Constable Peter Valentine who is based in Galashiels said: “I want to hear from anyone who has relevant information or who saw a person acting suspiciously in the area.

“This sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and we treat such reports extremely seriously.”
