Lithuanian dancers Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius of the company Low Air performing their show Feel-Link at ZOO Southside and dancers from London based 201 Dance Company, with their show Smother (also at ZOO Southside) limbering up and throwing shapes outside The Scottish Parliament Building.

Both shows feature urban/hip-hop dance and focus on love, passion and true personal relationships, belying the macho image of the hip hop genre.

Smother: Challenging the taboo that persists in urban dance around presenting stories of homosexuality, choreographer Andrea Walker directs a cast of seven in a fast-paced, intimate performance about the relationship between two young men.

Feel-Link features an evocative electronica soundtrack that ultimately gives way to the passion and sophisticated rawness of Nina Simone’s Feelings as the dancers engage in a seemingly endless cycle of repressed feelings that ultimately come to an astonishing conclusion. Husband and wife dancers Irida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius celebrated their wedding anniversary yesterday (18 August).
