Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a shop in Lady Lawson Street overnight.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire which was in the basement of a snowboarding and sports equipment shop around 11.30pm last night..

Two females and a child were checked over at the scene before being left in the care of Ambulance staff.

Gas and electrics workers also attended the scene, along with a Red Cross welfare vehicle.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said. ““We attended to a confirmed fire within a ground floor basement of a snowboarding and sports equipment shop. The shop is on the ground floor level of a four-storey tenement building.”

“All persons were accounted for after a search of all properties above and adjacent to the premises.

“There was an adult female, one child and one elderly female in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and they were checked over at the scene as a precautionary measure.

“We had approximately 35 firefighters and four senior officers in attendance.”
